Hamster Cage Reviews: Habitrail Ovo Suite Hamster Cage
A while ago, I bought the Habitrail Ovo Suite cage for my pet hamster Rex.
Compared to other hamster cages I had before, I find this one to be the best plastic cage on the market. It is not only easy to clean and assemble, but it also looks cool.
When it comes to cool hamster cages, remember that plastic cages are made for smaller hamsters, not larger ones. When you have a smaller hamsters that could possibly get stuck between the bars of larger metal cages, a plastic enclosure is your better choice.
But if your hamster is on the larger size and it would not fit in your joint hands, then you shouldn’t consider any plastic cage for it, but go with a wire cage. Some people recommend to use a glass aquarium for your hamster, but hamsters and other rodents by nature like to tunnel and burrow and hide. So keeping them in a flat aquarium with a house to hide in isn’t right and can stress them out and even shorten their life span.
So if you have a small or dwarf hamster the Habitrail Ovo Suite is a great habitat. You can even add many other cool things like the Ovo Maze, the Ovo Tree House or the Ovo Adventure pack, which will joined together provide plenty of space for your hamster. This cage is around for at least 3 or 4 years now which tells you about its popularity and quality.
What’s great about it is that it mimics a hamster’s natural burrowing enviroment plus gives them plenty of room to move and hide.
The Ovo is (unlike some other plastic hamster cages) very easy to clean and maintain. All the tubing pops out with ease and comes in half, so you can easily clean the inside of the tubes. ItsĀ locking rings are of good quality and hold it together well. The tubes are also compatible with other Habitrail cages or even other brands like Super Pet Crittertrail. So if the cage is a little cramped because of the wheel and food area, or too big for your pet to get onto, you can either leave them out or replace them with tubes that are bigger.
The Habitrail Ovo Suite is reasonably priced at around $50, which is about the same price as any other good plastic hamster cage on the market. However, if you add a lot of extras like tubes, a den, the tree house, a transport carrier or the Ovo maze or the Ovo adventure pack, you can easily spend about 100 dollars in total, but it will pay off as you will have many hours of fun with a happy relaxed hamster that loves its habitat!
If you are looking for an expandable tube system hamster cage, the Habitrail Ovo Suite is a pretty good choice.
